Understanding Navy Body Fat Standards
How to Measure Height & Weight
• Measure in the morning before eating
• Stand straight with heels together
• Wear minimal clothing without shoes
• Empty pockets before weighing
• Use a calibrated scale on a flat surface
Neck Measurement
• Measure just below Adam's apple
• Keep the measuring tape perpendicular to neck
• Stand straight, looking forward
• Tape should be snug but not tight
• Take multiple measurements for accuracy
Waist Measurement
• Men: Measure at navel level
• Women: Measure at narrowest part of waist
• Keep tape horizontal around body
• Measure after normal exhale
• Don't pull tape too tight or leave it loose
Hip Measurement (Women Only)
• Measure at widest point of buttocks
• Stand with feet together
• Keep tape parallel to floor
• Ensure tape goes around largest part
• Maintain even pressure around entire circumference

• Age 18-21: 22%
• Age 22-29: 23%
• Age 30-39: 24%
• Age 40+: 26%
Maximum Allowed (Women):
• Age 18-21: 33%
• Age 22-29: 34%
• Age 30-39: 35%
• Age 40+: 36%
