Understanding APFT Status
What is APFT Status?
Your APFT status shows if you're current or overdue for testing. A valid test is good for 6 months. Your status affects your eligibility for promotions, schools, and special assignments. Regular testing ensures you maintain military fitness standards.
Readiness Levels
Fully Ready: Score of 70+ with no profiles
Marginally Ready: Score of 60-69
Not Ready: Score below 60
Limited: Any score with a medical profile
Your readiness level determines your ability to deploy and perform military duties.
Meeting Standards
Minimum passing score: 60 points per event
Good: 70-79 points
Excellent: 80-89 points
Outstanding: 90+ points
You must pass all three events (push-ups, sit-ups, run) to receive a passing score.
Medical Profiles
Temporary: Short-term limitation with expected recovery
Permanent: Long-term or permanent limitation
With a profile, you'll take alternate events for affected areas. Your commander and medical provider will determine appropriate events based on your specific limitations.
Training Tips
Train all three events 3-4 times weekly
Mix strength training with cardio workouts
Allow recovery days between intense sessions
Focus extra attention on your weakest event
Gradually increase intensity as you improve
Career Impact
Failing an APFT may result in:
- Flagging (preventing favorable actions)
- Remedial PT program enrollment
- Counseling and performance improvement plan
- Potential administrative action if not improved
Maintaining a passing score keeps your career on track.
